Have you ever found yourself with dozens of windows in the finder or in another application without a "Window" menu ? You had to move, close, shrink many windows before finding the one you were looking for. This extension installs a "Window" menu in the menu bar, that you can use to select hidden windows (no, they don't have to be hidden !).
• What do I need ?
It requires System 7 or later. It's written in 68k code, so you can use it on both older Macs and Power Macs.
• Who wrote this program ?
Well, I only added some functionality to "SysMenu" by Matt Slot <fprefect@umich.edu>, whom I greatly thank for having posted his code on alt.sources.mac.
• Will it always work ?
It references windows by their name. Thus, if you have many window with the same title, it will select only the topmost one.
If a program has more than one hilited window (this happens with palettes, or tool windows), the window menu is empty. I made it that way because programs with palettes use a custom ordering for the windows, and selecting a window with WinMenu could make them crash.
Furthermore, WinMenu won't let you select another window when there is an active dialog (this would be a BadThing™).
• Ok, I'll take it, how much is it ?
Nothing- it's freeware. Not that I expected someone to pay me for this :o)
But if you have comments, suggestions, or you find bugs, etc., as always write me <paco@paco.dsnet.it>.
